a trillion dollar economy in debt

India is one of the fastest growing economy in the world, India’s GDP is US$1.237 trillion(Rs. 33,51,633 crore), which makes it the twelfth-largest economy in the world. a trillion dollars economy! but does that mean Indian people get what they deserve? how government is spending the money what it reserve in budget and how much of it reaches to its desired destination. here are some sectors of Indian economy, beginning with infrastructure since, lots of funds is stuck in this sector.

its a favourite mantra of policy makers, politicians and prescribing economists and they chant it relentlessly as an antidote to recession and a supplement to boost growth. tragically though for all the chanting of the infrastructure mantra government has not been able to change the religion of sloth on ground.

hon. minister sushil kumar shinde has failed crack down red tape in clearance and push trough the power project and guess what he is back in new cabinet as again power minister!

total 310 of 591 projects are delayed.so now final estimated costs of these projects has grown 38% more with Rs. 1,70,000 crore more.

the bandra worli sea link cost Rs.1600 crore and took almost 10 years. project`s estimated cost was Rs. 650 crore with projected date of finish was mid 2001. but the project finish with delay of 8 years. this project is presented as example of ‘wort manage project’ in Project management book by john nicholas.

the great waste on money : mayawati`s project; spending more than Rs. 2000 crore. Rs. 52 crore ware spend on the statues only! now since drought mayavati government has asked the central government for more funds. this UP n bihar are place of most poorest human life conditions.

and after the drought and recession UPA government said we will follow a saving plan n start traveling in economic class, some of higher minister made show off of it too. how much (paise) it saved? not more than Rs. 2000/-  on each trip. now look at following more facts where they can actually do something for incredible savings,

more facts:

how we are spending money(or wasting?)

  1. Between 1 april n 31 march 2008, minister n officers travel over 11.40 crore km n spend Rs.58.54crore on fuel. (256 times around the earth!!!)
  2. In 1947 nehru cabinet had 22 ministers. today UPA government has 78 ministers spending Rs. 75,000 crore on it.
  3. Why environment minister need a secretary, 2 additional secretory, 6 joint secretory, plus 2 IAS officers (secretory equivalent posts)  there are lot more like it but we ppl dont ask why!
  4. Between 2005-09 Rs. 93.5 crore were spent on “up gradation” of MP n ministers. should every minister be given a bonglow at over 100crore? when 38% of indian population is still under below poverty line, without any proper shelter.
  5. This year Rs. 1,24,000 crore will spent on rural development and poverty reduction. from which its estimated that only 15-20% will actually reach to these peoples.
  6. To deliver subsidised gains worth Rs. 1, government spends Rs. 3.65 !! why this cant be fixed??
  7. Farmers lose over Rs. 60,000 crores product rots in fields, poor roads n lack of chain markets are cause of it.In 27 July 1009 issue of outlook, they publish cover story as Rs.2500 crore rice scam, when question about it was asked in parliament(i have seen it on loksabha channel) the respective minister answered there is no such scam and few more relative lines, that’s all. discussion was warped saying the distribution system is corrupt n needs reformation. Since then no any news of any action on the respective officers.
  8. Due to recent flood in andra pradesh and karnataka, state government has asked for Rs. 10,000 crore to centre. now it`s really a big question how much of this grand amount will actually reach to hands of flood effected peoples.

putting together,

  1. Indian education system reformation demands for Rs. 2,26,410 crore. and government has approved Rs. 77,933 crore. in the latest “paisa bachao” by UPA government, our Hon. HRD minister said, universities  should look for their own sources for funds, increase fee do whatever…???

  2. Indian military system requires 22,000 crore for buying new weapons.

  3. India’s total external debt is placed at US $ 125.2 billion(Rs.5,96,077.2  crore ) at the end of March 2006. as per RBI.

  4. as per intelligence report 71,34,400 crore are in swiss bank as Indian black money.

now do u think is this country of poor peoples?

why 38% population is still under Bellow Poverty Line?

does any one ask why these projects are delayed? is it so difficult for us to return our debts and set a free nation?

this money doesn’t come from air, its our money which government take from our pockets, staff of 1,38,370 is doing job to collect revenue of Rs.6,41,079 crore.

i don’t think u will be aware of 90% of these facts, but dont worry in this country ur not alone, out of 1.4billion 1 billion still dont know about it, n that’s exactly what empowers these corruption.

the ministers have extremely simple tech. to hide all scams, if they lost election, their boy, girl, uncle whatever is their to hide it. why in 1.4billion peoples country don’t we have 100 leaders?

why do we need this children of politicians as next leaders????  just don’t vote for them.

this and such problem will persist till our leaders in parliament are not policy makers, we have to identify the them and vote them in. democracy doesn`t put any basic qualification for standing in election but we can decide whom to give our vote.

think about it.

DR. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Speech in Hyderabad..
Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements?
We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such
achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.
I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to.. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.
In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime… Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.
Why this obsession with everything imported.. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her, you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.
Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don’t work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say.. What do YOU do about it?
Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name – ‘YOURS’.
Give him a face – ‘YOURS’.
YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don’t throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity In Singapore you don’t say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn’t dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai . YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah..
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, ’see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.’YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, ‘Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so’s son. Take your two bucks and get lost.’ YOU wouldn’t chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand .

Why don’t YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don’t YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ?
Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr. Tinaikar, had a point to make. ‘Rich people’s dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,’ he said. ‘And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan .
Will the Indian citizen do that here?’ He’s right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? ‘It’s the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons’ rights to a dowry.’ So who’s going to change the system?
What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbors, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England . When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.
Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one’s conscience too. I am echoing J. F. Kennedy’s words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians..
‘ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA
WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY’
Lets do what India needs from us.

    Thank you,
    Dr. Abdul Kalam

thanks saqib for this inspiring article, i will post it as separate post.
bytheway its not like that i like to talk negative, the thing is our systems are so dumb that our achievements also look dwarf in front of our failures which we can always see predominantly. and yes its people who is sole responsible for this all misery. remember India is democratic country infact the largest.
we have 2nd largest population and sill we ware enslaved by 200k Britisher s n now some corrupt people… we don’t like to take responsibility and the cheapest way is put all responsibility on god so we have largest religion blind people too.

actually while reading this article, i felt something for the nation, was not actually able to express my feelings, but when i read this speech from Dr. Abdul Kalam, it really expressed best what i was thinking at that time.

To summarize in short i will say that

” Instead of criticizing the system around(which is not going to help newys) we work at our level, do what will be good at individual level. It can be at anything such as avoiding throwing garbage on the road, giving some valuable information to others in-need, telling others not to spit on the road, never harm any public property such as trains, buses etc. or make it dirty and telling others to follow d same etc.

You need not be in any special member of government for that.”

let me tell u something …
    1. to bring any change u need to talk
    2. gandhigiri dont work there days so u must enforce things through deliberate rules
    3. people in our country dont take action untill some catastrophe occurs, and who can prevent it? its management since its their job. ofcourse along with that individual efforts are needed but u must convince people need of the action.
and people dont listen to normal (same level of experiance/ age) people. here ego n age matters than ideas. sharing info. is a prohibited act here.
that is why we need faithful management people who can welcome new ideas, can collaborate thoughts in constructive way.
gov. offices have enormous power in their hands but they even dont know how to exploit it in optimum way.
its like u buy nokia n97 n use it just for calling n sms that’s all.
whatever u said same i used to thing during my BE, but since i learn about politics i am saying so. huge difference in logic n actual world.
